Baby Headbands

When I found out I was having a girl, I was definitely excited for all things pink, frilly, flowery, skirts and dresses and cute headbands to adorn my cute baby. BUT I vowed I would not have any headbands that were the same size as her head. Call me crazy, but the headbands are to enhance her cuteness NOT overpower her, but I realize everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

While at Kmart one day I found a pack of lace headbands with little roses. They were cute, but I wanted them to be cuter and I wanted them to be just for my little munchkin. And so hot glue gun met fabric (satin/felt/cotton) flowers. The blue is the original headband. I simply removed the rose on the others and attached my own flowers.

New ideas...

My friend, Sarah, put up a New Year's To-do list... for cooking and crafting things. She found some great ideas. One in particular that I wanted to do was the bleached stripe shirt. Find it here and dream of it after! With the current rain here, I think this is going to have to wait until summer...

I am also interested in learning to bleach burlap to make a picture, almost like painting with bleach. I haven't been able to find a lot of research online so I may have to go home to my papa to learn. Anyone know anything about this process?

Spring Wreath

I wanted to make an ornament wreath such as the one below and had no luck. I couldn't find a single wire wreath so I tried to use a wreath with multiple wires and it didn't work. Then I thought maybe I could use a styrofoam wreath and attach with ribbon- that didn't work either. Oh well, next Christmas!

Since I had a styrofoam wreath and the weather has been so wonderful (minus yesterday and today!) I made this wreath with ribbon, cut out fabric flowers with rhinestone brads and paper leaves. It is hanging on my door, gladly welcoming spring if it wishes to come back.

Homemade Christmas

I love Christmas traditions. My in-laws have a tradition where they you make a present for one person and buy for another. This tradition often comes with a little frustration/anxiety, much thought and always a lot of enjoyment when opening these presents. This year I made BBQ sauces and a BBQ recipe book for one of my brother-in-laws. And I received a table made by my father-in-law to further my crafting needs. I have been looking for a table that isn't too big and has some character- this has it all- and was made just for me! Now I just need to get the rest of my crafting items into the spare bedroom and take complete domination...

Get this- the design is called Domestic Goddess! Isn't this perfect! This beauty was made by my sister. I am sorry for the amateur photo, but I couldn't get it to work a better way.

Over the break, with the help of two of my sister-in-laws, we made this darling painting for my other sister-in-law who just had a beautiful baby girl. I had a lot of fun with this one and am thinking of making another one with different colors or a very similar one for kicks and giggles.

Any suggestions?

I feel like this is missing something, but can't figure out what to add or how to enhance the overall image. The background actually does have some color and dimension to it, but I am unable to capture the details with my camera. Any suggestions (if anyone actually reads this)...




As a side note, the marks in the tree are actually music notes.

Color Me Mine

I love this place. There are so many projects one can come up with. They have everything from kitchen items, to bathroom items and even decor items. My sister and I made a picture frame of her little boy's footprint.


I think my favorite idea for this store is having a bachelorette party. The bride-to-be can pick out her colors and each guest decorates a piece as their present. If there is one in your area, then go, enjoy and be crafty.

Paintings....

I made these for my new nephew's nursery.  He is adorable and they went with a quilt my sister is in the process of making (she would be done but the little guy had to come a month early!)

Craving Deliverance

I put a spin on an old CD case for my sister while she was pregnant. I put 4 Ghiradelli chocolates inside and labeled them as a Craving Deliverance. I believe 6 could have fit if turned the other way... I guess next time I will know.

Homemade Christmas Gift

My husband's family rotates Christmas gift names. Each person has two people, one gift we buy the other we make. It is a great tradition and is always fun to see how creative we all can get. This year, I received an apron adorned with my title, "Domestic Goddess in Training." It was a very thoughtful gift and I love it!

It has now been initiated into the DGIT kitchen...

A man's bouquet...

On my way to work I am a frequent listener to NPR and before Valentine's heard several references to sending a dozen roses to your sweetheart. Sure, a dozen roses would work for me, but not for my loved one.  Instead he would appreciate a dozen donuts. Sure I could have just bought a dozen donuts, but why not make him a bouquet of donuts....

I bought dowels from local craft store, Michael's, cut out leaves from green paper and bought a variety of donuts from the grocery store. Put them together and you have a man's bouquet!

*Word to the wise.... don't get donuts from the grocery store, get them from a real donut store.

Tabs on cooking...

Family Cookbook... Mi madre is compiling all of our (the girls in the family) favorite recipes and I am in charge of making the tabs. I have one set down (my sister's) and three more to go...

Christmas Countdown

I made this with my "Simply Doing Something" group. We each made some sort of vinyl/wood project. It is a Christmas Countdown, for the month of December.

First paint the edges of the blocks and let dry. Once dry you can mod-podge different paper onto each face of the blocks. After mod-podge is dry, put vinyl numbers on and you can also mod-podge after. On one block are the numbers: 0,1,2,3,4,5 and on the second block: 0,6,7,8,1,2. The 6 doubles as a 9.

Don't you wish Christmas was only 10 days away... or maybe this is too soon after the holiday to say!

Christmas Card Holder

I love getting cards and was excited to see what cards would come our way this Christmas... and I needed a way to showcase them all...

It is really simple, the hardest part was finding the clips. I used alligator clips, found at Joann's in the jewelry section. These are perfect as they are a great size and have a hole in them to attach a cute decal. I already had the snowflake confetti (with holes in them) and used small brads to attach the confetti to the alligator clips. It was also a little tricky to bend the brads to get them to stay, but I used a needle to help. Any type of wire will work, I used picture wire because we already had it!
